ON THE SLY worked alongside Balich Wonder Studio and SKYMAGIC to create the music for The Silence of Light at Hegra, part of a large-scale drone show experience presented in AlUla.
Hegra, Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, provided the backdrop for the performance, staged during the AlUla Wellness Festival and widely covered in international media including Arab News.
Set within the dramatic desert landscape, the project brought contemporary drone technology into dialogue with one of the Kingdom’s most historically significant locations. The role of the music was to provide emotional grounding for the aerial choreography and help shape how the audience experienced the story unfolding above them.
Rather than treating the soundtrack as a standalone composition, the music was developed with restraint, responding to the scale, silence and atmosphere of Hegra. The score allowed moments of stillness and spectacle to coexist, helping guide the audience experience while respecting the character and heritage of the site.
The result was a live drone show experience in which music, light and landscape worked together to create a contemporary performance rooted in the history and environment of AlUla.
This project forms part of ON THE SLY’s work creating soundtracks for fireworks and drone shows around the world.
