ON THE SLY developed the sonic identity for STV Radio, the new national commercial digital radio station for Scotland.
At the centre of the package was a six-note musical logo designed to become instantly recognisable as STV Radio, supported by a wide-ranging set of custom sonic themes built to work across the station’s output. Rather than a sung jingle package, the system was created as a flexible musical framework that could support imaging, programme flow and key utility moments across the day.
The package included multiple themes spanning synth pop, guitar pop, contemporary pop, rock, laidback and 90s dance, alongside dedicated Breakfast, News and Weather themes. Together, these gave the station a consistent sonic identity while allowing different parts of the schedule to carry their own energy and character.
The work was created around STV Radio’s wider brand positioning: a station with personality, variety and a strong sense of place in Scotland. Our role was to create the musical system underpinning that sound from launch.
