BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend arrived in Londonderry, Northern Ireland, marking a significant cultural moment for the city and a flagship event in the UK music calendar.
ON THE SLY worked with the BBC and the projection mapping team to develop the sound design for the event’s opening sequence. While the motion team created the visual narrative across the Guildhall façade, we built the audio layer around the music – using sound design to add weight, drama and context to the projection-mapped imagery.
Our role was to structure and enhance the opening moment, shaping the pacing of the sequence as the visuals unfolded and ensuring the piece landed with clarity and impact for both the live audience and broadcast viewers.
The result was a striking opening sequence that helped frame the start of the weekend, launching Radio 1’s arrival in the city with a tightly synchronised combination of projection mapping, music and sound design.
