Birmingham hosted the 2022 Commonwealth Games as a city-wide celebration, with sport, culture and live experience woven throughout the programme.

ON THE SLY contributed music across multiple moments in the lead-up to and during the Games. One year ahead of the opening ceremony, we created the soundtrack for a large-scale drone show above the city, using music and movement to build anticipation and mark the countdown to the event.

During the Games themselves, our compositions were used to open daily sessions at venues including Badminton, Gymnastics and Netball, helping set the tone as audiences arrived and competition began. The music was designed to support the rhythm of each day, carrying energy from the first moments through to the final plays.

We also composed the official medal ceremony fanfare and countdown, performed live across the Games as athletes stepped onto the podium. These pieces became a consistent musical signature throughout the event, underscoring moments of achievement and recognition.
