The BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge is one of the most recognised live music platforms in the UK, featuring exclusive performances and covers from many of the world’s biggest artists.

ON THE SLY was commissioned to compose the musical theme for the Live Lounge, creating a distinctive sonic identity used to introduce performances and frame the feature across BBC Radio 1’s output.

The original theme launched in 2019, followed by an updated production in 2021. In 2025, ON THE SLY developed a series of new compositions based on the same sonic identity, creating fresh interpretations of the Live Lounge theme for different strands of the station, including Radio 1, Radio 1 Anthems and late-night programming.

Across each iteration, the aim was to maintain a recognisable Live Lounge signature while allowing the music to evolve with the station and its programming.

This project forms part of ON THE SLY’s work creating musical branding and themes for major broadcasters and entertainment platforms, alongside music direction and score for large-scale live experiences around the world.
